As remarkable as it seems, it looks like we’re actually going to have something closely resembling a summer this year. We even had a dry Wimbledon for once (I was lucky enough to see the men’s quarters this year and thankfully, was in the shady bit of Centre Court or I’d have been BBQ’d alive. Next up, of course, is The Ashes.
So if you’re off to witness England’s batting prowess (or lack thereof, depending on how you look at it) make sure you’re fully prepared. For starters plonk a hat on your head (I bought the nifty one is the pic from Urban Outfitters the day before heading to the All England Club and it was a snip at just £12.99), take Dermalogica’s Solar Defence Booster SPF30 with you (it’s small enough to fit in your pocket and is good for vulnerable boys like the cheekbones, nose and ears), slather on a suncream with a minimum SPF of 15 elsewhere and stay smelling sweet with my fave deo – Clinique’s roll on anti-perspirant which is also small enough to take with you in case you need to ‘top up’ during the test match. Just a few tips for giving your skin a sporting chance this summer.

Biotherm Homme fans take note: the company has some really exciting products heading your way. July sees the official launch of their High Recharge Energy Cleanser (a daily cleanser designed to optimise your skin’s energy levels and reduce the signs of fatigue) and Force Supreme Total Reactivator Anti-Age Gel – a high-tech wrinkle-buster with a superbly light finish. I had a sneak preview of both products last week at a special launch and both are fantastic.
Then, later in the summer the company launches Aquapower Absolute Gel. Designed to combat men’s complaints that many moisturisers are too sticky this lightweight gel is absorbed in seconds and leaves a non-sticky, matte finish. They also have some great things lined up for 2010 but I better hadn’t give too much away or I’ll get shot. Let’s just say that fans of the Force Supreme and High Recharge ranges are in for a treat!
The launch of the new products also featured a fascinating male grooming trend presentation. So what can we expect in the next 30 years or so? Well, look out for creams that do away with razor blades, products that capture energy in the body and re-direct it to the skin so you never look tired and ‘super skincare’ – tailor-made anti-aging products based on your DNA profile and how your relatives have aged!

Argh! What is it with us Brits? As soon as the sun pops out so do the flamin’ flip-flops. And with the flip-flops come truly manky male trotters. Now, I hate to come across like an old curmudgeon but these, collectively, are two of my all-time pet hates.
Firstly, flip-flops should never be seen gracing the feet of a man on the street. Unless he’s Australian, in which case I can excuse this most hideous of sartorial faux pas. Forgive me if I’m mistaken but flip-flops are for the beach right? Or at a push for around the house/in the garden/when you’re in the gym changing room and don’t fancy picking up athlete’s foot.
When sported for a day out shopping, though (and usually accompanied by feet as black as coal thanks to our dirty streets) they look utterly hideous. Frankly, they annoy me almost as much as 30-year old men on skateboards.
And then there’s the bad feet. This week I have seen some right sites – gnarled, unkempt, crusty things that must strike the fear of God into women if they scare me. So please, guys, fling the flip-flops as street-wear and sort out your feet!
