Since I always have my (admittedly rather jug-like) ear firmly to ground when it comes to the latest trends in male grooming I thought I’d report that the latest buzz centres around ‘skin brightening’. Already a well known beauty treatment with women it looks like men are getting in on the act too and more than one large skincare company is looking into a dedicated brightening product for men.

Essentially, skin brighteners help even out skin tone and minimise the kind of patchy pigmentation we all tend to suffer from (especially as we get older). I reckon they’re gaining in popularity thanks, in part, to the current trend for ‘perfection products’ like Nickel’s aptly named Perfector which aim to improve the overall look of the skin. A funny thing happened on the way to the….

Without a doubt, one of the real joys of the Internet is the way that it allows people – usually complete strangers – to communicate, swap ideas and to exchange tips. And whilst I’m here to answer some of your questions there’s a wealth of useful information available from Mankind customers on our Forums. What’s especially good is that the information being swapped is based on first hand experience.

So if you want to know how good a product really is there’s no better place to look. And I’m always amazed about how knowledgeable Mankind customers are! I’ve worked on several websites and believe me, Mankind customers are the real connisseurs when it comes to male grooming. In fact, it’s a testament to their expertise and passion for all things grooming that I’ve learnt a few things from them too.

There have been some really interesting debates on the forums this week – on everything from the best summer fragrances to the benefits of eyeliner for men so if you’re not familiar with them check them out. After all, they’re your forums and they’re only as good as you make ‘em!

Bluff your way to better skin!

For the last few weeks I’ve been road  testing a superb new product from Nickel and wanted to share my thoughts on it whilst I’m still staring at myself in wonder! The French skincare company’s Le Grand Bluff Protector is one of those grooming products that once you start using you’ll have to have on repeat order. A bit like a Photoshop treatment for skin, it’s a lightweight cream designed to minimise pores, cover up imperfections and instantly mattify skin.  Using just about every trick in the book (light-reflecting particles to blur imperfections, micro-powders to absorb excess sebum and a whole load of other ingredients to minimise blotchiness) it’s one of the best instant improvers I’ve come across.
