picture perfect?

Posted on 10/03/10, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

Do you have a Facebook profile? Or are you on Twitter, Bebo or LinkedIn? If you are, chances are you also have a profile pic up there too. But be honest – how old is that pic?

According to a new survey by Lab Series For Men,  the average male profile pic is actually over 18 months old! I must… read the rest of “picture perfect? ”

Lab Series has wrinkles licked!

Posted on 15/02/10, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 1 Comment

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a special press dinner for the launch of Lab Series’ brand new anti-aging solution, Max LS Age-Less Face Cream.

I’ve seen many new Lab Series launches over the years but never have I seen the company be so thoroughly proud about a new product as they are about this premium wrinkle-buster… read the rest of “Lab Series has wrinkles licked!”

leeI don’t know if you saw the news this week but Moobs (a.k.a man boobs) have been everwhere. And when I say everywhere I mean everywhere. In fact, according to one survey up to 60% of men are affected by the condition, which is about as everywhere as you can get.

And, here’s a

By this I mean products using things like rollerballs to help cream, gels or serums access the skin. It’s already… read the rest of “Male grooming's next big thing...”

New Year’s resolutions?

Posted on 04/01/10, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 1 Comment

2010_33

At this time of year we’re all tempted to make a few New Year’s Resolutions but whilst it’s all very well vowing to join that gym or never touch a Ginsters pasty again, I find a few grooming resolutions don’t go amiss either. But just in case you’re struggling for ideas, here are a few promises definitely worth… read the rest of “New Year's resolutions? ”

This year’s best grooming gear

Posted on 17/12/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 1 Comment

As we approach the end of another year I’m staring to reflect on my favourite grooming products of the year were (it’s something we Grooming Editors do in the absence of anything important to worry about!). And it’s been quite a year for exciting new stuff. But a few products in particular have really floated my boat. So, without further ado, here are my top three Mankind faves for 2009… read the rest of “This year's best grooming gear”

Finally! It’s here!

Posted on 20/11/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

gffr1Now, this week brought joy to my heart in the shape of a new addition to the Mankind family – my all-time favourite fragrance Geoffrey Beene’s Grey Flannel.

I’ve been lobbing for us to stock it for nearly a year now and finally my cajoling and arm-twisting has paid off.

For those of you unfamiliar with the designer, Geoffrey… read the rest of “Finally! It's here! ”

Mankind favourites pick up even more awards

Posted on 12/11/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 3 Comments

awardsSpent last night at the annual Beauty Magazine Awards held, this year, at The London Aquarium. As one of the shortlisting judges (I help narrow down the field a little and then the readers of the magazine vote) I’ve been attending for several years now and it’s always a fun night that often throws up some interesting winners (yes, beauty

Looking good for your age?

Posted on 29/10/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

clive-owen-hi-resLet’s face it, we all like to be complemented on how well we’ve aged. So 45-year-old actor Clive Owen must be thrilled with the results of a new poll conducted by Trevor Sorbie which names him as the British male celebrity thought to have aged the best (though it’s bizarre that a decidedly craggy Hugh Laurie should come second).… read the rest of “Looking good for your age?”

Thank f*** for Flint!

spock1

As some of you may have gathered from the post below I spent last week pounding the streets of  New York. Mistakenly conceived as a holiday it felt more like a daily half-marathon and, now that I’m past 40, all that walking certainly took its toll on my poor plates (I wish I’d have taken my FitFlops because at least… read the rest of “Thank f*** for Flint!”

Guybrows – the latest male grooming trend?

Posted on 16/09/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

bruno02News reaches me today that men now make up 40% of visitors to Debenhams ‘Brow Bars’ (i.e places where you get your eyebrows professionally ‘shaped’). Seemingly, this is double the amount compared to a year ago. Clearly the release of Bruno has had more of an impact on the male psyche than anyone could have thought.

Fancy growing a ‘tache for cash?

Posted on 07/09/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

tame-main-1Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been banging on (to just about anyone who’ll listen) about this the current Tacheback campaign, organised by the Everyman charity. In case you’re not familiar with the initiative, the charity – which raises much-needed money for research into testicular and prostate cancer – is asking men to grow a ‘tache in order to… read the rest of “Fancy growing a 'tache for cash?”

Always look on the bright side….

Posted on 27/08/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

msss2Since I always have my (admittedly rather jug-like) ear firmly to ground when it comes to the latest trends in male grooming I thought I’d report that the latest buzz centres around ‘skin brightening’. Already a well known beauty treatment with women it looks like men are getting in on the act too and more than one large skincare company is looking… read the rest of “Always look on the bright side....”

give skin a sporting chance

cropAs remarkable as it seems, it looks like we’re actually going to have something closely resembling a summer this year. We even had a dry Wimbledon for once (I was lucky enough to see the men’s quarters this year and thankfully, was in the shady bit of Centre Court or I’d have been BBQ’d alive. Next up, of course, is The Ashes… read the rest of “give skin a sporting chance”

Foot for thought

Posted on 04/06/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 3 Comments

Argh! What is it with us Brits? As soon as the sun pops out so do the flamin’ flip-flops. And with the flip-flops come truly manky male trotters. Now, I hate to come across like an old curmudgeon but these, collectively, are two of my all-time pet hates.

Firstly, flip-flops should never be seen gracing the feet of a man on the street. Unless he’s Australian, in which… read the rest of “Foot for thought”

Are you aware?

mastersunawarenesslogoYou might not know it but this week is Sun Awareness Week, the annual drive by the British Association of Dermatologists to reduce the 200 cases of skin cancers diagnosed ever day in this country. What’s even scarier is that cases of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, are rising faster than any other type of cancer in the UK… read the rest of “Are you aware?”

Style news ‘in brief’

Posted on 27/04/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | No Comments

It was that famous social commentator Jerry Seinfeld (a man only rivaled by Homer Simpson when it comes to summing up the human experience) who said that men want the same thing from their underwear that they want from women: a little bit of support, and a little bit of freedom.

This must be true since sales of snug-fitting briefs are rocketing. In fact, I read in The Times… read the rest of “Style news ‘in brief’ ”

Sir Alan’s search for his Apprentice continues…

Posted on 16/04/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 1 Comment

the_apprenticeOkay, so who saw last night’s episode of The Apprentice? The one where Sir Alan’s increasingly hapless bunch of dimwits (sorry, potential employees) had to create a bath and bodycare range? I’ve never seen anything so cringeworthy in all my life! Aside from the fact that one team actually put soggy, sticky honeycomb into a bar of soap (why

dc8952e96d50I’m not sure how many of you know this but Arena magazine finally ceased publication a couple of weeks ago. Mankind wins top grooming award!

Posted on 06/03/09, filed under Mankind Grooming Editor | 1 Comment

As I write this week’s blog I have to confess that I’m nursing a Chenobyl-style hangover. I’m knackered, have the kind of eyebags even John Prescott couldn’t better (yes, Grooming Editor’s get them too) and I barely slept a wink last night thanks to an excess of red wine tannins and frankly, sheer pride. The reason? Well, last

Oh no, I’ve finally joined Facebook

Working for Mankind has been a real revelation for a bloke like me who grew up in a time where there were no mobile phones, no internet and the only computer to speak of was was a green-screened Amstrad.

I am now firmly ensconced in the world of blogging (as you can see), can barely pull myself away from YouTube, purchase practically everything online these

Can men wear pink?

New Look Cardigan

Generally speaking, I’m a patient man. But this week I have found myself incensed by narrow-minded, bigoted and frankly, pig-ignorant blokes who reckon that men shouldn’t wear pink, use fake tan, apply a hand cream or even take time to look after their skin simply because ‘that’s not what men do’.

Now, I don’t suspect that any Mankind

Looking for the perfect hand job?

Good news for fans of Lab Series this week – I hear on the grooming grapevine that the brand (one of my own personal favourites and, judging by the way it flies out of the Mankind warehouse, one of yours too) will be launching two new body products this year, one of them a hand cream especially aimed at guys.

Given that most men don’t exactly… read the rest of “Looking for the perfect hand job?”

Crunch Time – when quality grooming counts!

Is it just me or has the entire country succumbed to credit crunch psychosis? Okay, so I know the economy is in a worse state than Kerry Katona but it seems to me the media are making things ten times worse. Only yesterday I picked up a paper with bad news about 700 job losses on… read the rest of “Crunch Time - when quality grooming counts!”
